A Letter to Delight

3/10/2016

Dear Delight Gluten-free Magazine,

Just two short years ago, I was a lonely freshman looking to fill the ample amount of free time I had during the day. I read your magazine religiously for years after my mom got me a subscription one Christmas. Since I enjoyed reading your articles and skimming through all the beautiful, glossy photographs of the numerous recipes, I decided to reach out and see if there were any internship opportunities the fall semester of my freshman year. I sent the email and honestly didn’t think about it again. A few weeks later, I received a reply from the editor of the magazine, the lovely Vanessa, who gave me my first assignment to assess if I would be a good fit for the team or not.

I wrote for you guys for two years. I managed to move from intern for credit for a semester to paid editorial assistant. You were my first ever writing job, and you taught me how to mold my tone of writing to fit my medium and audience, a very valuable skill. I was given short blurbs, interviews, travel pieces—I got to virtually interact with many big names in the gluten-free field. I was also given a taste of copy editing, which has since become a major love of mine. The entire team of email addresses was always incredibly kind and helpful, especially when I was a newbie.

For two years, I wrote articles about the gluten-free options in faraway places and interviewed some truly inspiring people. Every piece I wrote or pitched was eventually published, which was a major influence in helping me gain other writing gigs.

I recently received one of the last issues that I wrote in, and I felt it was time to publicly express my appreciation. Delight and Vanessa, thank you so much for all the opportunities you gave me. I will be forever grateful.

Sincerely,
Alex

Now, to all of my fellow gluten-free readers, if you don’t have a subscription to this international magazine or haven’t at least read one issue, then you’re really missing out. Before I worked for them, I would read every issue! Each magazine is PACKED with tons and tons of mouthwatering recipes—all of which are created and tested in the Delight kitchen. The editor, Vanessa, also published a cookbook a few years ago. Most editions contain a list of new products to try out as well as articles about prominent topics in the gluten-free/Celiac arena. If you’re a magazine lover, then the subscription to Delight Gluten-free Magazine is totally worth it.
