So a few months back, I confessed my love affair with all things So Delicious. This company has my heart, and I’m totally okay with it. As just a reminder, So Delicious is an entirely dairy-free company with a hefty load of gluten-free products. All of their food is non-GMO certified and vegan (in addition to the accolades already mentioned). Recently I was given the chance to get my hands on SIX more of their delicious flavors. SIX. My mom and I were ecstatic. (She’s really the only one in my family, beyond myself, who doesn’t make a face when I say “vegan ice cream,” which is fine because there were less people I had to share my delicacies with.) I’ll start with my favorite of the bunch: Chocolate Cookies n Cream. It was the best thing I ever ate. Chocolate on chocolate. First off, the cashew-milk base gives a super creamy texture. Then there's the intense chocolate flavor of the ice cream itself. Such a deep cocoa flavor! And finally, making the dessert really sweet, are the chunks (CHUNKS) of Oreo-like sandwich cookies. The inside of the cookies adds another sweet layer, but it's the softened chocolate cookies that really bring the whole ice cream to the bomb level: They've softened just so, mimicking the texture and flavor of brownies. AND, get this, although you’d think that something so decadent would be sugar-laden, it’s not. My dad's go-to dessert is simple vanilla frozen yogurt, which contains 19g of sugar for a ½-cup serving. For the same size serving, you could be feasting on Chocolate Cookies n Cream ice cream for only 3 more grams of sugar. I think that's a huge flavor trade-off! My second favorite was the Cookie Dough Ice Cream. Before So Delicious, I’d never had cookie dough ice cream before. (No company had ever made the infamous dessert gluten-free before. I know – a tragedy.) I love all the little nuggets of dough sprinkled throughout as well as the chocolate shavings that fleck the coconut-based ice cream. Just an awesome flavor all around. For the Oregon Mixed Berry flavor, another coconut milk one, I had this great idea to make the opposite of a fruit pie. I won’t go into details because the genius plan backfired; I didn’t think through how hard the cookie would become once it was frozen. In order to salvage the ice cream, I ended up scrapping it all off. Oregon Mixed Berry isn’t my favorite flavor, but it still tastes good. There are prominent stains of blueberry throughout and something else that is a mix of tangy and fresh. Finally, the CocoWhip. I’ll admit that I’m not a whipped topping fan. In fact, I like to avoid it at all costs, but since I love everything else So Delicious makes, I figured that I had to give their CocoWhip I try, at least. And I was thoroughly surprised. It was very tasty, very coconutty (#newword), and I enjoyed it. I think I’ve always been put off by the texture of whipped topping, so I kept this in the freezer until about 30 minutes before I was going to eat it; I served it atop blueberries and with slivered almonds. I might be a changed person. There are my thoughts.
I have a few recipes (using some of these flavors) to share, so keep your eyes peeled! Comments are closed.
