Some Gluten-free Finds

8/16/2016

It’s always a treat to stumble upon a new gluten-free food that actually tastes good. While I was in Portugal over the summer, I came across two bars that helped curb my hunger between meals. After the first week, I had eaten all the protein bars I brought with me, so when I came across Roobars at the local Brio, I was super excited. Their Chia & Spirulina Protein Bar quickly became a staple of my day. This superfood-filled bar is 100% organic, vegan, raw, gluten-free, no sugar added, and contains 13g of protein! Made from a mixture of cashews, rice protein, and spirulina, the taste was rather unique. At first, I was nervous about how intense the spirulina would be, but I really enjoyed the flavors!

The other bar I found was from MadeGood Foods. I ended up trying both their Apple Cinnamon (my favorite!) and Almond Apricot flavors. Both bars are non-GMO, gluten-free, and organic. And, get this, they contain vegetable powder! The powder is a mixture of spinach, broccoli, carrots, tomatoes, beets, and shiitake mushrooms. But rest assured, the only flavor you actually taste (in my favorite flavor) is the beautiful blend of gluten-free oats, apples, and a dash of cinnamon.

The last product on my “Gluten-free Finds” list was found back home at a TJ Maxx if I’m not mistaken (all I’m certain of was that my mom and I found it in a rather obscure place). Jovial Foods has an entire line of gluten-free breads, pastas, and cookies (all of which I can’t wait to try in the future!), but we happened upon their Tagliatelle egg pasta. I made it with dinner last night, and with all five of us home, it was gone in a matter of seconds. The pasta, which was ready to eat in less than 10 minutes, was perfectly doughy and chewy, the texture that all al dente pasta should possess. Get this: The only ingredients are 100% organic Italian grown brown rice flour, water, and organic eggs. That's it! One serving contains 48g of whole grains!
