Two Months Later

8/31/2017

*two months passes since the last blog post was published*

During my absence from blogging, I was preparing for and then beginning grad school! Now that I’m here and settling into my new life, I’ll be posting more frequently…maybe once or twice a month! (I’ve already got something else in the works, so two months won’t pass without yummy-food-related content again!)

Due to my continuous love affair with all things Enjoy Life Foods, I was given a bundle of goodies literally the day before I left for grad school (that coincidence was kind of crazy!). The box included the newest members of their Chewy Bar line: Caramel Blondie, Carrot Cake, and Lemon Blueberry Poppy Seed. With a few hectic weeks in front of me, I was excited for the snacks!

I’ll start with the only downside I found, which was the size. The bars are definitely on the tiny end of the size spectrum, so sometimes I ate two (and eyed the third, but stopped myself). However, the positive about their size is that they’re a really good pick-me-up in case you forgot to pack an actual snack and you’re starving because you’ve been in orientation for hours and you’re about to head home but you feel like you’re withering away (may or may not be speaking from personal experience). I also ended up keeping a couple bars in my backpack and lunchbox for those days when I was just a little hungrier.

Caramel Blondie was the most decadent and delicious flavor of them all. It was buttery and rich. The texture of all the bars reminds me of cake, and this flavor added the perfect combo of soft cookie and chewy caramel. We all love those little gems that we can eat without feeling any guilt about consuming a mass amount of calories, sugar, etc. Here is that gem! (I gave my younger brother a few of these one afternoon, and he devoured them.)

The Carrot Cake bar is the embodiment of fall. The first bite is an explosion of warm spices with the crunch of pumpkin seeds and the chew of raisins and the tiny pieces of shredded carrot! (The addition of pumpkin seeds was an interesting element, and I loved it.)

Lastly, there’s the Lemon Blueberry Poppy Seed bar. Despite the lengthy name, this was my favorite flavor. The different tastes that are married in this bar are unexpected, which is part of the charm, I think. There’s the brightness of the lemon, the subtle hint of blueberry, and the tiny bits of crunch from the poppy seeds. (This was the bar that I may or may not have eaten two at a time…)

As is true for all of Enjoy Life Foods’ products, these bars are free of the top eight allergens, and they’re vegan. For the unleashing of these bars, the company has also started using a new flour blend in their products that’s made from sunflower kernels, cassava, sorghum, and quinoa. I love the addition of more alternative flours rather than the straight white rice that some bars are made of.

Next time you see these lil guys on the shelf, pick up a box (or two). You won’t be disappointed!
